Pace, Florida History
William Barnett founded Pace, previously known as Florida Town, in 1821. Barrnett owned a timber mill, and the rich timberland fed the mill. Florida Town was renamed in 1907 by Mr. James C. Pace, who built a new mill and renamed the town after his namesake.
Pace is a growing community that has boomed in the last forty years. Between the years of 1970 and 2011, the number of residents increased from 5,000 to 53,000. The population increase has helped Pace transform from a small town into the grand small town-city it has become.
