Named after the Georgia businessman, James G. Pace, who bought and re-built a local timber mill in 1907. This formerly rural community was first called Floridatown or Pea Ridge, which are still used today for two neighborhoods in the city. As the town’s structure and employment expanded and the population grew, it officially received its current name, Pace, in 1912. In the last 40 years, the city’s growth has really taken off, and the town has now grown into a thriving suburb of Pensacola.
