Gulf Breeze, Florida is a waterfront community of 5,763 that prides itself on its fine small town character, quality education, excellent local government and a multitude of waterfront activities.

Gulf Breeze has 18 miles of waterfront property and three protected bayous. The city has one of the best boat ramps in the area in close proximity to the Pensacola pass. There are also 105 acres of undeveloped park property along the water for a leisurely walk in the woods.

History of Gulf Breeze

Gulf Breeze shares a rich history with the entire Florida Panhandle. In 1559, Tristan de Luna arrived in Pensacola Bay with 500 Spanish soldiers. The first settlement was abandoned due to diseases, disasters and hostile Indians, but other Europeans followed. In the late 1700’s, the British occupied the peninsula and named it Town Point.

By the early 1930’s, bridges between Pensacola and Gulf Breeze and Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach were completed as was Highway 98. Gulf Breeze’s namesake was established in 1936 when the Gulf Breeze Cottages and Store opened a post office branch where Live Oaks Plaza now stands.

Things to Do

Gulf Breeze is best known for its waterfront activities. Residents and tourists enjoy chartering boats, fishing, parasailing, riding jet skis, and other beach related activities. Another interesting attraction in the area is the Gulf Breeze Zoo, which provides visitors with a variety of activities, such as a walking path, petting zoo, safari line train ride, and a boardwalk that extends throughout the zoo.

The recreation center is also a popular hot spot for Gulf Breeze’s active community which consists of a gymnasium, tennis courts, game room, auditorium, softball field, and picnic area.
